Automotive Painting Air Filtration
If 5μm dust is mixed into the paint layer, the human eye can see the flaws caused by the dust. In order to ensure the quality of the paint on the surface of a car, the coating shop (sometimes called paint shop) of a car manufacturer uses a large number of air filters to remove the dust from the air of the painting and baking line.
The paint line is generally a very long tunnel, and the car body travels along the tunnel through various pre-treatment and painting processes. The entire top of the tunnel is covered by a thick layer of non-woven fabric, through which fresh air enters the tunnel evenly. The role of the non-woven fabric at the top of the tunnel is to dampen and even the flow, this layer of non-woven fabric has some filtration effect, and is provided by the manufacturers of filter materials, so people are accustomed to attribute it to the air filter. If using the method of evaluating the efficiency of the filter to experiment, the efficiency specification of this layer of damping material is roughly equivalent to F5. In fact, the filtration efficiency of the high and low is not important here, the important thing is that the material itself should be uniform and not lose hair. |
![]() | The main filter of the paint line is located above the damping layer or in the air handling unit. The main filter is usually an ordinary bag filter. What determines the cleanliness level of the paint spraying environment is this level of the main filter, not the layer of damping material closest to the paint tunnel. The main filter is also preceded by a pre air filter. Most of the bag filters used in the paint shops of new automobile factories in recent years are of the common size of 592mm*592mm (nominal size 24"*24"). |
On the baking line in the paint shop, the air sent in has to be preheated to about 200℃. Since the heating device may emit dust, the air filter has to be placed at the hot air end, which requires the filter to be able to withstand high temperatures of 200~250°C for a long time. The efficiency specifications of the filters here are generally F7~F8, and the filters are all of separator construction, with the glass fibre filter paper with a pleat distance of about 8mm separated by corrugated aluminium foil. Due to the need for high temperature resistance, the adhesive and sealing between the filter paper and the metal frame of the filter is the key, the sealing structure should be reliable, and the cost of the sealing material should not be too high. The sealing gasket on the filter is mostly a glass fibre felt gasket with elasticity and a thickness of about 5mm. |
The pre filter of the baking production line is located at the inlet end of the air supply unit, so there is no requirement for temperature resistance. The pre filter is mostly an ordinary bag filter with low efficiency. For the convenience of management, the pre filter of the baking line and the pre filter of the painting line are often designed with the same specification.
