Air Filters are designed to deal with dust

Air filters capture any form of particulate matter, including liquid droplets. The filter material is soft, fluffy and more or less anechoic. Filters create resistance to airflow and have a somewhat equalising effect. However, at no time should a filter be used as a water barrier, a muffler, or a windscreen.

When the filter carries water, the accumulated ash on the filter mixes with the water to form a slurry. If the filter material is dense filter paper or cloth, the slurry will quickly gum up the filter. For fluffier filter materials, after absorbing water, the dust that has been captured may be carried with the water droplets into the downdraft end of the filter, and then as soon as it dries again, the dust will fly again. Sometimes, the water carried by the filter is not so severe that it drips, but trace amounts of moisture are enough to transport the accumulated ash on the windward side of the filter media to the leeward side. After the filter is air-dried, there is a risk that the dust will fly away again. Someone has done experiments to spray dust on the bag filter, and the resistance of the filter does not rise. The reason for this is that the dust runs behind the filter with the water.

Filters are places where dirt is hidden and humidity favours microbial growth.

Filter is to deal with dust, although a little muffling effect, but if the user requires muffling, you need to use a special muffling device.

In particular, for industries such as the inlet filters of gas turbines and large centrifugal air compressors, where no downtime may be permitted when changing filters, the working environment in the filter room can be very harsh without specialised silencing equipment.

In addition, the filter should not be used as a windscreen. Filter is not so strong, in reality, there have been a number of examples due to the failure or design error of the windshield, so that the fan blowing directly into the filter, resulting in abnormal damage to the filter. At any time, any form of filter, can not be used as a windscreen.

The filter filters suspended airborne microorganisms as particulate matter, but only ensures that airborne microorganisms are blocked in the same way as ordinary particulate matter. To limit microbial reproduction, the filter should not contain nutrients. The place where the filter is to be used should not be too humid. People are constantly launching new filter media that can sterilise bacteria, and there is definitely some truth in those sterilising features, but the truth is often covered up by the merchants, and the effect is magnified many times over. If there is a real need to eliminate the microorganisms that are mixed in the ash accumulated in the filter, it is important to take the appropriate measures and not to expect too much from the filter itself.

Sea salt dust in the air is the particulate matter, and ordinary filters can filter sea salt. When sea salt was a hot topic in the electronics industry, some people marketed filters that specifically dealt with sea salt, but they were forgotten about within a few days.

Note: Filters only deal with dust. Professional things require professional facilities.
